Dota 2 is a game where, two teams of five players are matched against each other on a map with two different bases that need to be occupied or defended. Before every match each player gets to choose a powerful character from a big roster of 119 different “Heroes” (a new hero will be added in the next update), all with different abilities, strengths and weaknesses.
During the game, players collect experience points to level up their characters by performing different feats, such as killing another hero or progressing closer towards the enemy base by killing defense towers. According to their performance, players can collect and earn gold. This is a very vital part of the game as earning gold will allow you to buy items for your character that can vastly improve your characters’ effectiveness. The first team to destroy the opposing team’s base will be crowned winners and not the team with the most kills. In every update or patch, heroes’ abilities get updated like increasing their cool down or decreasing the mana cost and lot of other things, that’s why every patch has its different top heroes.
Currently in the 7.30 patch our top 10 heroes are as show in the graph: Tidehunter, Monkey King, Mars, Pangolier, Void Spirit, Lina, Tiny, Lion, Bane and Sven. Those heroes are the most picked and have the highest winning averages.
Winning a match is all about gaining experience and gold on every hero faster than the opposing team. To be able to do that heroes must kill creeps by last hitting them (last hitting a creep means being the last player to hit the last hit on the creep and killing him). Being only in range of the creep or hero that dies let’s your hero to gain experience but not gold.
Different types of damages are made in a single match by different heroes like pure damage, magical damage and physical damage. Physical and pure damage affect buildings like towers, barracks and ancient but around 85% of the magical damage which is made by heroes’ spells don’t affect buildings.
Not all the heroes deal the same amount of damage to heroes and buildings because some heroes are all about their magical spells which make a lot of damage to enemy heroes but zero damage to buildings, so while choosing the team in the picking phase being aware not to end up having a team where the heroes have a lot of magical damage and can’t kill towers is really important because as mentioned in the introduction Dota2 is all about killing the enemy ancient which is a building to win.
In Conclusion, this game is very difficult and requires a lot of reflex and understanding of the surroundings and of the situation. Everybody can play pub games first you need 100 hours of normal games (each game takes 35min in average) to be able to play ranked games, in which players are ranked from herald to immortal based on their win/loss ratio and their gpm and xpm in each game.
